My Lover's Complications

My eyes to the broken ceiling
Peeling words falling onto my head
Like leaks, absorbing into my brain
As Madam Poetry looks upon her notes
The jagged lines of the notebook
That let her know that I’m still verbally alive
My breaths cooled as she runs the tests
Her caramel eyes running over my sweating body
“How are you feeling?”
I cough up a stanza and she jots it down
Head nodding to the melodyMy voice possesses
The rhythm that aligns my stars
She touches my throatAnd my fingers twitch
She looks into my bronze moons
And my heart beat increases
As my eyes read her face
Displaying my own raw emotion
My “Lover’s Complication”
And as I become transfixed by her allure
She kisses my lips with her cure

My heart beats the words your own will never pick up
Because although on the same page
We are frequently at different frequencies
And every time I seek you out
You hop on another station
And we begin our emotional game
Of Cat and Mouse
Getting close to repel one another
With such a great force
And pretend like it’s all okay
Seeing how close we can get
Before we retract within ourselves
Due to our own “Lover’s Complications”

Which causes me to poetically pass out
And wake up in my poetic E.R.
Mind wired to the lines of the notebook
Thick ink taken out of my chest
With syringes and injected
Into the thin layer of paper
My eyes flashing the visions
Of the wandering dreams
Mixing with
The mind-twirling reality
Of what is essentially US
I want to be YOURS
I want you to be MINE
I would cheat on poetry
If it means getting a hit of your loving
Inside of me
To get me out of this hospital bed
And back up to space where I rightfully belong
High…
Even though as I high as I am
You still have the power
To make fall
Back to Earth
All over again…
